With the railroad coming to Red Rock, trouble is expected and Billy (Buster Crabbe) has been sent ot help his friend Fuzzy (Al St. John) who is the town's Sheriff, Judge, and barber. When the man that sent Billy is murdered and the railroad location map stolen, broken match sticks point to Vic Landreau. While Billy tries to find the missing map, Landreau suspects Billy is on to him and plans to have him killed.

Ken Maynard hears the cry of the weird masked "phantom" of Tombstone Canyon. The plot thickens when Maynard discovers a man with a key to his past has been murdered by the phantom.

Beasley (Noah Beery), who is after Gayner's (Harry Carey) land, plans to kidnap his daughter (Verna Hillie). But Dale (Randolph Scott) overhears their plan and kidnaps her himself. When Gayner arrives to retrieve his daughter, Beasley kills him and makes the Sheriff (Tom Kennedy) arrest Dale for the murder.

When Sheriff Jake Withers (George Hayes) sees John Carruthers (John Wayne) at the safe and then finds the payroll gone, he trails him. Just as he is about to arrest him, John saves his life. Still suspicious, he joins up with the man and later they learn that Melgrove (Edward Peil Sr.), the towns leading citizen, is trying to take over the area's ranches by having his gang stop all incoming supply wagons. Almost all the Lone Star John Wayne movies have one or two quite unusual and memorable scenes. Here, it is the bizarre opening scene.

Born To Battle (1935) - Tom Tyler "Cyclone" Tom Saunders (Tom Tyler) is hired by a ranchers' association manager to investigate recent cattle rustling at one of their ranches and to see if a pair of nesters have anything to do with it. After discovering the nesters, Betty Powell (Jean Carmen) and her old father (Earl Dwire), are incapable of rustling, Tom turns his attention to the huge, swaggering bully of a foreman, Nate Lenox (Richard Alexander).

Gambler Angela (Patricia Medina) supports her drunken father, 'Doc' Medley (Henry Hull), and runs around with the gunslinger Slinger (Gerald Mohr). But she really loves the new doctor in town Dr. Bruce Merritt (Richard Denning)–and the inevitable showdown looms.
