This animation has been produced on Nov 4-5-6, 2011 during the "Cartoon Fabrica", the animation workshop for kids at the 5th Big Cartoon Festival in Moscow. I worked with many many many kids of different ages, some as young as 2 years old. Anja Boguslavskaya lead the workshop with me. The workshop used PASTA as material to animate. Younger kids practiced on direction and speed, older kids experimented with composition and micro-stories. This is the same "The General Line" that appears elsewhere on the archive but I have added English inter titles which make it much more accessible. Directed by Sergei Eisenstein and released in 1929, while not one of Eisenstein's best films (it was recut for political reasons and later resored).) it is a lovely portrait of Russian peasant life during the transition from human to mechanized labor.

Mother, 1926, directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin. This is a great silent film from the early days of Russian communism. It is the story of one mothers personal revolution against the Tsar and has one of the moist rousing ending in movie history. YTou will want to rise up yourself.

Strike was directed in 1925 by Sergai Eisenstein. It was Esienstein's first feature film and an indicator of the brilliant films t follow. As with other Communist films of this period, the workers in general are the heroes. The composition and editing are spectacular, particularly with the scenes as the troop raid the apartment buildings, and the conclusion where the killing of the workers is intercut with the slaughter of cattle.

Silent film set in Russia, where a newly married woman's husband is sent to Siberia along wit one of her former suitors. She attempts to rescue her husband only to find that the former suitor has assumed his identity. No sound.
